OTE Group recognizes that climate change is a global environmental problem the impacts of which affect its operation and stakeholders, and the whole range of economic activities as well as life on the planet. Global temperature is increasing, climate is changing and urgent global action is needed.
The EU Green Deal sees digital technologies as a critical enabler for a zero-carbon economy and at the same time calls the ICT sector to put sustainability at its heart.
In this context, OTE Group has developed a comprehensive climate change strategy has been formulated and implemented that includes 4 main pillars:
- Value Chain Emissions
- Renewable Energy
- Energy Efficiency
- Enablement: Positive climate protection effects on customers
OTE Group is committing to new, more ambitious, targets for climate protection -in effect also for the Deutsche Telekom Group.
These targets are:
- Carbon neutral emissions from own operations (scope 1 and scope 2 emissions) by 2025, including up to 95% reduction by 2025, compared to 2017.
- 100% Renewable electricity, from 2021 onwards.
- 55% reduction of emissions across the value chain (scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 emissions) by 2030 with respect to 2020.
- Net Zero emissions across the value chain (scope 1, 2 & 3) by 2040.
In 2023, OTE Group recorded an 87% decrease in Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions from energy consumption compared to 2017, secured 100% electricity from RES through Guarantees of Origin, while at the same time saved 64.9 GWh of energy.
